VERONIKA SINKÓ

GRAPHIC ARTIST – PAINTER

Veronika Sinkó was born in Budapest, Hungary, in February 1945. She also completed her education in the capital. She will always remember the nuns being dragged away from the Ranolder Institute in 1949. After graduation she studied textile painting. From 1971 on she exhibited her works in Budapest, other Hungarian cities, Germany, France and the United States. This tour was sponsored by Rev. Imre Bertalan.

Since 1985 she also makes animated films. In 1987 she made ten 4-5 minute films for the Hungarian Television.

Her first book “Our Lady’s Slipper” Names and Legends (A Boldogasszony papucsa) was published by Móra Ferenc Ifjúsági Könyvkiadó in 1987. Since then she illustrated and edited several books, among them: “The Forest of Lead” Folktales (Az ólomerdő) 1988, Sándor Petőfi: “A helység kalapácsa” 1990.

At the present (1992) she dedicates more time to oil painting, a technique which she also used from the start.

Veronika Sinkó is an extraordinary and unique individual. She is an expert in Hungarian folk art and folk traditions which is expressed in her art.

She comes from a very religious family. Her father was the editor of the Catholic paper “Új Ember” for many years. Their family suffered much during the last regime because of their religion.

Veronika Sinkó’s deep faith is not only expressed in her art, but in her everyday life as well. She devotes her spare time to care for and help the poor and homeless.

In 1992, the exhibition at the American Hungarian Museum presented a summery of her diverse art work.

Since 1992 Veronika Sinkó published another book “Mysterious Rose” (Titkos értelmű rózsa) containing century old Mary-legends, in 2011. In addition she also illustrated more then ten books.
